LUMA, the black cat featured in Littlenobody FABLES, continues to take shape through the construction of a physical creature armature. This project uses handcrafted character builds as reference material for SORA 2 to generate a 2-minute 30-second animated film inspired by traditional fables, morality tales and emotional storytelling.
The first stage of LUMA’s construction focuses on creating the wire armature and foam head form. These structural elements establish the character’s proportions, balance and posture before sculpting begins.
Building the Wire Armature
The wire armature forms the skeleton of the character, providing both strength and flexibility throughout the build process. Establishing accurate proportions at this stage is essential, as every later component relies on the armature for alignment.
The build considers:
- Overall body proportions
- Weight distribution
- Natural feline posture
- Limb positioning
- Character silhouette
Creating the Foam Head Form
A foam head form provides a lightweight base that allows facial features to be developed without adding unnecessary weight to the armature.
The head form establishes:
- Skull proportions
- Eye placement
- Muzzle position
- Ear location
- Neck connection
Character Reference for SORA 2
Each stage of construction provides additional visual references that can be used during AI-assisted animation. Consistent physical references help maintain character continuity throughout image generation and animated sequences.
Looking Ahead
With the armature complete, the next stage focuses on developing LUMA’s head using a wooden block core and clay sculpt to refine facial expression and personality.
Conclusion
The wire armature and foam head form provide the structural foundation for LUMA. These early construction stages establish the proportions and visual language that will guide both the physical sculpture and future SORA 2 animation workflow.
